Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has proposed recognising English as the only official language of the United States following comments from Bad Bunny, who will perform at the 2026 Super Bowl.

“And if you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.” — Bad Bunny

The proposal, introduced on Monday, September 6, would not restrict the teaching of other languages in the United States. However, it will establish that reading and understanding the Constitution in English will be a requirement for naturalisation.

According to reports, this follows Bad Bunny’s remarks suggesting that Americans should learn Spanish before his 2026 Super Bowl halftime performance.

During Saturday Night Live, Bad Bunny said in Spanish that his performance at the 2026 Super Bowl will be an achievement for the Latino community.

In response to these statements by Bad Bunny, Marjorie Taylor Greene urged the United States Congress to approve her initiative to define English as the only official language, posting on X:

“Bad Bunny says America has 4 months to learn Spanish before his perverse, unwanted performance at the Super Bowl halftime. It would be a good time to pass my bill to make English the official language of America. And the NFL needs to stop having demonic sexual performances during its halftime shows.”
— Marjorie Taylor Greene

It’s worth mentioning that this initiative was introduced by Marjorie Taylor Greene to the United States Congress on March 5 and is currently in the early legislative stages.
